The Friday Five 10.12.18
Quote I am pondering: "El que con lobos anda, a aullar se enseña."
Translation: He who runs with wolves will learn to howl.
Meaning: You are the average of the people you hang out with. This goes along with another quote I believe in deeply: “You’re the average of the five people spend the most time with,” a quote attributed most often to motivational speaker Jim Rohn. Both quotes basically say, “Show me your friends and I’ll show you your future.”
I believe that our list of friends should change as we progress through life. This does not mean so much that we discard old friendships as much as it means that we should seek out new relationships. As we move through the different stages of work and life, we should be looking for others who have already walked the path we are approaching. And further, we should be looking for those who are walking behind us.
Scary App to add to your phone:
“Moment” (Only available for IOS at this time). Are you willing to find out how much time you really spend playing Subway Surfers, stalking Facebook, or watching Netflix on your iPhone or iPad? If you are ready, download “Moments” and it will send you a daily report of where you’ve been and how long you spent there. Not only will it help track your time, it will probably help you change your habits.
TED Talks
I highly suggest listening to TED talks. They are short, topical videos on a variety of subjects. In this TED talk, Kelly McGonigal talks about “How to make stress your friend”. According to McGonigal, our response to stress greatly affects our physical health. She explains that while we cannot always remove the stress from our lives, we can choose to acknowledge the benefits of stress. Yes – the benefits of stress! “Psychologist Kelly McGonigal urges us to see stress as a positive and introduces us to an unsung mechanism for stress reduction: reaching out to others.” And guess what…the link has the transcript of the video in both English and Spanish!
Event we are promoting
Attorney McClure is partnering up with Unidos X Amor once again. As most of you know, Unidos X Amor is dedicated to helping those who have major financial difficulties due to the lack of health insurance. This event will benefit a stroke victim who needs help paying for medical expenses as he is no longer able to work as a barber. El Disco Rodeo (10531 Gulf Freeway) is joining with us and with the family to host the event with live music, great food, raffles and games for the kids. Please come out and support this great cause on October 14th. You really can make a difference! Click here to find out more information.
My latest creations
Nathan and I spent some time with our great friend, Eddie Delahoussaye, and we had some fun welding some “art”. First, we made a few horseshoe pumpkins. Then, I made a butterfly for Bethany to put in our yard. We had a great time and I am thankful for the opportunity I had to be an “artist”. If you want to create your own pumpkin, watch this video on YouTube! It was created by a woman who goes by “BarbietheWelder” and she has several “How To” videos about how to weld with different projects.
