Never sign anything from Uber or a taxi company after an accident until speaking with an attorney
Edith and I travel quite a bit and each time we are in a different city, we tend to use Lyft or Uber since it is so convenient. When an accident happens in an Uber or other rideshare vehicle like a shuttle or taxi, it can be extremely difficult to figure out who is going to pay for your injuries. There are usually multiple insurance companies and trying to locate a police report when you may not even know where you are can seem next to impossible. We handle Uber and rideshare car accidents and would be happy to help you (even if your accident happened outside of Texas, we can help to make sure you are protected). Don’t sign anything from Uber, Lyft or the taxi company; come to us first so you know your rights are protected.
Save money by cancelling unused app subscriptions on your iPhone or Android
Do you get irritated when you sign up for a free trial, forget that to cancel, and then receive a receipt for the auto-pay? We do! It may only seem like a little bit of money each month, but it really adds up, especially if you are paying for apps that you don’t even use or planned to use on a regular basis. This article by Popular Science outlines exactly how to analyze which apps you are paying for each month, how to cancel, and how to prevent automatic renewals if it’s too late and you’ve already paid. It might also be worth reaching out to the app company and see if they’ll give a refund. Simply explain that you didn’t realize that you were going to automatically be charged and they may have mercy and give you back your cash.
Insurance company trick of the week: Making a recorded statement mandatory for moving forward with your case
Despite what the third-party insurance adjuster tells you, you are absolutely under no obligation to give them a recorded statement before speaking with an attorney. The recorded statement will be used against you later, no matter how innocent the questions seem. Repeat: A recorded statement is only taken to be used as evidence against you! Insurance companies will:
- Use your recorded statement to compare against anything else you may have said. And when something, even a minor thing, doesn’t match up, they will claim you are a liar;
- They will ask you questions in a way to get you to answer a certain way. The adjusters are trained om how to talk to you and their scripts are produced by companies who are experts in asking just the right questions to get the responses they need; and
- Anything you say, even something you think is inconsequential, will be scrutinized in an effort to discredit you.
So, it is better to say nothing at all and let your lawyer speak for you.
Personalized Father’s Day gifts that will make your dad cry
Father’s Day is right around the corner, but there is still time to get him something really cool and unique. Skip the tie or wallet this year and get him something that is personalized specifically for him. This list of Father’s Day gift ideas is brilliant and while I am going to let me kids decide on their own what to do for Father’s Day, I still think that the custom playing cards and What I Love About Dad book are pretty slick.
Who knew used coffee grounds had so many great uses around the house?
In keeping with our summer of eliminating food waste, we were so surprised to learn how many ways you can use the grounds after making a pot of coffee. From repairing scratched furniture to making your dog’s fur smooth and flea-free after a bath, this list of clever uses for coffee grounds is great. We especially liked the idea that since coffee grounds are so beneficial to gardens, stopping by your local Starbucks and asking for a bag of used coffee grounds is a free way to enhance your blooms and double your harvest! Coffee shops are happy to give away the grounds instead of throwing them away.
